The Passing Out Parade tells stories from the south-west of New South Wales and the experiences of war that have shaped our history and who we are today.

As an arts and culture project, it aims to enhance our understanding of the Anzac legacy from a distinctly rural perspective. It creatively commemorates the service and sacrifice of men and women from our region over the century since the First World War.

The Passing Out Parade represents the historic parade of people, faces, and families that have influenced our region during times of war and conflict. It brings our region together under shared values and experiences, allowing us to express our stories in a unique and creative way.

The Passing Out Parade is a regional collaboration between South West Arts, local RSL Clubs, local councils,
South West Music Regional Conservatorium, Outback Theatre for Young People, local schools, creative groups and artists.
It has been supported by the Australian Government’s Anzac Centenary Arts and Culture Fund.

Audio Story Collection

The Passing Out Parade Audio Story Collection began with intensive research across the South West region. We want to thank everyone who shared stories with historian Marg Jefferies.
The Deniliquin Creative Writing Group took these records and developed over 40 short stories. We are grateful to local award-winning author Fleur Ferris who ran workshops with the writers, helping to refine their creative expression. A selection of stories was then edited for audio recording and narrated by community members.
Pip Whykes at The Shack Studio produced each track, with the theme and score composed by musicians from South West Music Regional Conservatorium.

The collection was published for ANZAC Day 2018.
